Quinn and I finally got out of Denver to score some river waves, paddle, and have some good times. Ok this is actually a work sponsored trip, so there will be “work” involved. Our itinerary is ambitious. Lunch Counter Wave on the Snake River in Wyoming, Boise River Park, Payette River Games, any wild hair detours, and throw in 30+ hours of driving it’s going to be an epic for a long weekend. Our goals: connect with river communities along the way and get on the water as much as possible.

Before heading toward Wyoming we took a look at the flows on the Colorado River. Although the flows had dropped from the peak a few weeks ago, we couldn’t resist a “small” detour to Glenwood Springs to paddle and surf their whitewater park. Haven’t even left Denver and we are already off the itinerary. Isn’t this what road trips are all about? Plus Quinn said he would drive late tonight.

We rolled into town late, about an hour of light left. Amping to get wet Quinn chose his custom built carbon fiber play boat (yes he built it) and I went with my 5’-10” surfboard. Quinn killed it throwing air screws, blunts, and pan-ams. I got some good rides too, but the wave was a bit under powered for my board choice. With the place all to ourselves we traded waves until dark. A good wave warm up for the trip ahead.
