Here’s an update from Ben Nielsen on the improvements taking place upstream (south of) Denver:
I’m super excited about building this surf wave in Sheridan for several reasons:
- The river in this area is almost completely unused, and is in terrible shape. The project will restore and repurpose the river as an amenity for the community and the local ecosystem.
- Denver has a river surfing community, but only rarely do we have good waves: most of the time, our options are not very good. Once this project is completed, the community will explode! The demographics of active, outdoors people is perfect for community building, much like Boise, where we built two WaveShapers a few years back.
- We are installing a WaveShaper that features super cutting edge design elements. It will offer surfable waves at the lowest river flows yet: this is huge, because it is difficult to build surf communities around waves that only work for a few months in the year. This updated model is designed to adjust the wave in two dimensions, rather than just one, so it will adjust for waves to break from the left or from the right. This hasn’t been done before.
I can’t wait to see it in action!
