River Waves are the Future

MWDG surfs rivers, and we share our passion for river surfing through design.

For decades, wave surfing has captured the imagination of beachgoers and athletes who love the challenge of interpreting and taming a wave for the blink of an eye, or a few exhilarating moments of partnership with natural force. Beginners may be smitten as youngsters from body surfing or first rides on bodyboards, dreaming of long rides on breaking tubes without the confines of a boat.

MWDG waves can be designed to modify in real time for real rivers. Features formed by our patented WaveShaper can change shape, and a specific shape can be maintained when the water increases or decreases. This flexibility allows surfers to dial in a difficulty level, and offers control for competition, training and an element of safety for beginners.

WaveShaper waves are perfect for rivers, canals and diversions in developed and urban rivers whose flow fluctuates often, and where communities see their as a valuable recreation destination, even when the rate of water flow is low.

In communities recently introduced to WaveShapers – Boise, Idaho and Columbus, Georgia –  river surfing has blossomed.   Landlocked and certainly with no long-standing tradition for board surfing, these communities are embracing the culture previously relegated to beach towns. In Boise, hundreds now frequent the river … to surf.

Services Offered: Concept study, preliminary and final design, stakeholder engagement for evaluative purposes and construction management and oversight.
